XXXO

The last couple of days I've been listening to XXXO by MIA, so I decided to do a mani inspired by the song/video. The video has a lot of those ghetto glitter graphics and there's also a lot of gold in the video so thats what I went with. My original idea was to use rose and heart decals but it didn't end up working out but I still included a pic of it.

This is a mani I did on my bff Gina a couple weeks back while she was visiting for the holidays.

Christmas Mani: Water Marble

So I finally did a decent job at water marbling my nails after trying a few times within the last couple of weeks. This is definitely something I need to practice some more but it was fun and very very messy as you can see from the pic below.

Burgundy Swirl + Gems

I really liked the way the swirl effect came out so I decided to do another one after my Purple Swirl Mani. The Steps were the same as in the Purple Swirl Mani except this time I had to work a little faster because I was using a Matte nail polish and they tend to dry very quick. The Swirl effect is also a bit less noticeable with these colors but it still looks nice. You might want to click on the pics to enlarge and get a better look.

Purple Swirl

A couple weekends back I wanted to try my hand at a water marbling mani for a wedding I was going to. Well needless to say it was a lot trickier and messier than I thought it was going to be. I gave up because I still had to get ready for the wedding so I ended up just swirling the nail polish on my nails instead.

Christmas Mani: Candy Cane French Tip

Here's another x-mas mani but this time on my mom. She had originally done it on her own but her tips were all messed up and not straight at all so I fixed them for her using a different red than she originally had on.

There's a few streaks on the index and pinky finger from the
red tips not being completely dry when applying the top coat.

What I used:
- OPI Alpine Snow
- LA Colors Art Deco in Red Glitter (NA 905)
- OPI Top Coat

Christmas Mani: Winter Wonderland

This is my 2nd X-mas mani and the one I'm currently sporting! Its a very blinged out mani with a snowman and snowflakes!

Christmas Mani

So I decided to do some holiday themed mani's for x-mas. This first one is pretty simple and just uses traditional x-mas colors: red, green, and gold. It kinda has a Mexican flare to me, but that could just be because of the red and green.

Teal The Cows Come Home

This color is a really pretty turquoise with silver flecks in it also I had the fan on when I was painting my nails so I got air bubbles and thats why my nails don't look smooth. :(

First Attempt - Leopard Print Nails

This was actually a pretty easy print to do especially since it doesn't have to be super perfect.

Plum Polish

This color is super old its from Avon's Color Trend line. The name of the polish is Plum, which it is with a more wine tone to it and small flecks of glitter in it which gives it a metallic-ish look to it.

I finally got around to painting my nails with Glitzerland, I had done a previous post back in September on this color but it was on my toenails.

Born A Fool

Today I thought I'd share a poem I wrote back in summer of '08. I don't consider myself much of a writer well at least not in that context. I don't know the proper styles of writing poems or anything I just wrote about things I was feeling also English was my worst subject. Anyway hope you like it!

Born A Fool

So much time has passed
You’d think I’d forget
Find another
Why are women such fools
My heart aches
It tightens and reminds me I’m alive
It reminds me I still love him
Why are women such fools
I yearn for his kisses
But settle for another’s
Why am I such a fool

We'll Always Have Paris!

As I mentioned in a prior post my mom and I got We'll Always Have Paris (Suede) by OPI. Like matte nail polish this doesn't last very long either (tag on bottle did mention that it doest wear as long as regular OPI polish) it does however last longer than matte polish after I showered my manicure wasn't completely ruined.

Matte Nail Polish

I decided to try out matte nail polish so a couple of weeks back I ordered Avon's matte nail polish in Gray Cement. I had read in other blogs that matte nail polish doesn't last long and even the review on Avon's site mentioned it but still I wanted to try it out. It came in last week and people did not lie it really doesn't last long at all I'd say 2 days tops and that's with touch ups.

Happy Halloween!

My Second attempt at doing a snake skin print but this time on my nails. It was a bit tricky keeping the tulle tight around my nail to get the print but I think I managed.

What I used:
-Tulle
-Make-up Sponge
-OPI Bling Dynasty
-OPI Glitzerland
-OPI Here Today...Argon Tomorrow
-Sephora by OPI Never Enough Shoes
-Sephora by OPI Leaf Him at the Alter
-Seche Vite

And lastly here is a pic of my halloween costume with two of my besties! My mom helped me sew the dress because it was a huge ill fitting tank dress. For my crown I bought toy snakes and painted them green and hot-glued them to a toy crown and lastly I glued and wrapped two lager snakes to small barrettes to help hold up my crown.

Snake skin print: first attempt

My mom was my guinea pig for this manicure. It was my first attempt and I did two different types of the manicure one with small netting tulle and one with larger netting tulle. My mom had her nails done with Bling Dynasty which actually came out really good through the other color but I still put a coat of Glitzerland over it. I'm going to do this manicure to go along with my Medusa costume for Halloween. I'm still not sure which design I'm going to do but I'm leaning towards the large netting tulle.

Smitten!

I'm super happy because my kittens are back home after being gone for like a week! Although I'm still a bit bummed out because my favorite kitty passed away its really a sad story.....

So last friday I ask my dad where the kitties are because they were always running around my backyard and he's like idk I think the cat (their mom) took them and hid them. She does that a lot, she did that with the last litter she had and then we only ended up with one of her four kittens (Chandler) she had. So I was really bummed out after he told me that because I started to get attached to them. Awhile later I went back outside to talk to my dad about where she could of taken them because they were already kind of big and then he freaking drops another bombshell on me by telling me that the black kitty with socks was dead! He said that morning when he went outside to feed the cats he found him there laying on the ground so he got him and buried him in our "pet cemetery" (under a try in our backyard where many a pet of ours are buried). He said the night before he had heard dogs barking in the middle of the night but was too tired to go see what they were barking at, my poor daddy I could tell he regretted not getting up to scare the dogs away. So yeah my dad was like the cat probably had taken the kittens away for awhile because of what happened with the dogs but yeah real downer story but the rest of the kitties are back and safe!

Now for cute pictures of them!

Claw Design

So I'm not really sure what kind of design this is? It looks both like a claw and a palm tree to me but whatever it looks good either way.

My Sweetness...

Woooo I'm super excited! Going to see the Toadies and Girl in A Coma today with my bestie Mk!
This is my favorite Toadies song its soo good! Love the Toadies they are a really good band but I think they're an underrated band and people only know the song Possum Kingdom but they have other really good songs like My Sweetness.

Also on a side note I broke one of my OPI nail polishes Crimson Carol last night. Which totally sucked because it broke in my nail polish drawer all over other polishes. Lesson learned do not throw my nail polishes into drawer because they will shatter and break! :( Perfectly good polish ruined!

Booo to October...

Well not really but it hasn't been as great of a month as I was hoping for. I was suppose to go to Austin this past weekend but wasn't able to make it because I got sick for the second time this month. Boo to my sinuses! It is shaping up though, thursday night is the Toadies concert which I'm super excited about! The only problem is that I have no date. My friend Jason was going to join me but he couldn't get the night off from work so as of now I'm going stag. I hope I find someone to join me although it wouldn't be the first time I go to a concert/show by myself.

I also need to get on it with getting my costume together!

Bonding

Yesterday my mom and I had a fun filled day full of shopping and getting our hair done at the JcPenny Salon which was some nice mother-daughter bonding time...Anyway they had a couple of OPI nail polishes 1/2% so we decided to snag some up.

Glitter Polish

Too Good for Him from Sephora by OPI is a glitter nail polish with purple, blue, and silver glitter in a clear base. This polish is great for layering over other colors but it's also great all on its own. I did 5 or 6 coats to get make sure you couldn't really see through it since it is a clear polish.

Medusa Make-up look

Halloween is quickly approaching and I still have yet to get my costume together, I have however decided how I'm going to do my make-up!

I used this face worksheet from Medusa's Make-Up to write down everything I used to create my look.

Lubu Heels

So first of all let me start off by apologizing for not posting this past week my internet was down :( but I finally got it up and running so yay!

I got Lubu Heels a few weeks back and finally painted my nails with it.  I was a bit disappointed with it because in the bottle the red glitter really shines but its not as prominent on your nails. The formula is also a bit watery so I did 4 coats to get it to look really black. It was however pretty easy to take off which was surprising because usually glitter nail polishes are a b**** to take off, so I guess the watery formula helped out in that aspect. I still like the polish because I have nothing like it I just wish the red glitter showed up more.

Also sorry my nails don't look so good I had already been wearing the polish for a few days when I finally decided to take pics of them and had already started to chip away at them.

Hook 'em

In honor of tomorrows big game and everything that UT has accomplished academically and athletically I decided to do a longhorn manicure. I'm not into sports at all really and never went to a game while I attended school there (I know this is like a huge sin) I still have a lot of pride for my school and super proud to be a TxEx.

What I used
-Klean Color in Miss Garnet (114) (its not the official burnt orange color but its pretty damn close)
-So Easy Stripe Rite in White
-Seche Vite top coat

NOTD Ruffian/Moon Manicure

Today I did a different version of the Ruffian/Moon Manicure. This version is way easier to do because all you have to do is follow the natural line of your nails lunula (the white moon shaped area at the bottom of your nails). I used a sheer sparkly color as my base so that I could still see the line and then colored over with my darker color.

I used Diamond Love (April) from Orly and Go My Own Way from Sephora by OPI's Rocker Chic collection. Go My Own Way is a rich teal with flecks of blue glitter.

NOTD Skulls

Other nail blogs I read have inspired me to do more exciting things with my nails. So in attempt to do so I decided to do some skull nail art! I used this video as a reference but instead of a nail art pen I used a #0 paint brush (which is why my cross bones are really jacked up). Its alright for my first attempt at freehand nail art but I definitely need practice because they all look a bit wonky.

What I used
-Avon Nailwear in Viva Pink
-Avon Speed Dry in Sheer Chiffon
-Sephora by OPI in Never Enough Shoes
-Rhinestone for thumb nails
-Seche Vite Top Coat

Halloween Costume

So I settled on being Medusa for Halloween and today I went thrift store shopping with my friend Krystavel to find a dress I could alter into my costume. I had decided I wanted a green velvet dress and I got super lucky because thats exactly what I found! It's a dark green tank dress that has no shape but it's ok because I'm going to take it in and alter it. Now I just need to get some snakes for my hair and work on some make-up looks!

Super excited for halloween!

NOTD Ruffian Manicure

This was my first attempt at a ruffian/moon manicure. The lines aren't really even but I think I still did pretty good and from a far you can't really tell. I used Sephora by OPI in Call Your Mother and Caffeine Fix. I did two base coats of Call Your Mother on my entire nail (let it dry completely) then two coats of Caffeine Fix on top of that forming a crescent moon shape at the base of my nail and then finished it off with Seche Vite top coat.

I really like the way this manicure looks although I think Call Your Mother blends in a bit too much with my skin tone to really appreciate the ruffian look.

I think I'm going to try a black and gold ruffian next time!

NOTD Galaxy Girl

Galaxy Girl comes from Orly's Cosmic FX collection of duo-chrome colors. The base color is a plum/wine color that is pretty dark and rich with specs of teal shimmer and a more subtle hit of pinkish/purple shimmer that is visible during certain angles and lightning.

I did four coats but only because the other night when I painted my nail I didn't let them dry completely and I got a few nicks and scratches on my nail so I had to do an extra coat to cover them. I also did pretty heavy coats because I like my nail polish color to be really dark and saturated. I also used Seche Vite top coat.
